Manitowoc Lutheran and Brillion are each two victories away from reaching the state girls volleyball tournament.
They meet tonight in a WIAA Division Three Sectional semifinal at Lancer Circle.
The Lancers come in with a record of 31-9, having defeated Kewaunee and Kiel to capture a regional title.
Head Coach Lacey Behnke’s squad has been impressive in 2025.
The defending Division Four state champions didn’t lose a single set in Big East play and have yet to lose a set this postseason.
They are deep and talented, led by Big East Conference player of the year in senior Marissa Melhorn.
Behnke tells SeehaferNews.com that her team is dialed in.
“I’m so proud of the girls in the mental maturity they display and continue to battle and find ways to win,” she said.
Brillion comes to town with a record of 28-4 having won nine straight matches.
Their most recent victory came last Saturday when they rallied from down 2-1 to defeat Valders in a five-set thriller, capturing the final set 15 to 13 and a regional title.
Junior Emma Schuh leads the Lady Lions in hitting percentage, kills per set and blocks per set, while junior Reina Eijtjes leads Brillion in serving aces and aces per set.
Behnke says that all teams this point of the postseason are good, adding a heightened sense of urgency is involved.
“All of us have so many seniors that there’s going to be another level of play, knowing this could be the final time that they play high school girls’ volleyball,” she explained. “We’re just getting to clean up some things, execute our game plan, and try to play our best volleyball at that point and time.”
The winner advances to play St. Mary Catholic or Peshtigo Saturday night in Chilton for a trip to the Resch Center and play in the state tournament.
