The trial for a man charged with attempted murder in Green Bay has begun.
The jury trial for 31-year-old Jaharrie J. Jelks is now underway after he was charged following a stabbing in December of 2024.
Jelks is on trial facing charges of Attempted First-Degree Intentional Homicide, False Imprisonment, Disorderly Conduct, and Misdemeanor Bail Jumping.
The two-day trial is set to come to a close today (October 30th) after his charges were dismissed and refiled one day prior to his original trial date this summer.
On the night of December 8th, 2024, the Green Bay Police Department responded to a weapons call on Western Avenue, where they found a 56-year-old man with multiple stab wounds.
Two days later, officers with the Milwaukee Police Department arrested the 31-year-old for stealing his car.
After he was apprehended, his mugshot was presented to the unidentified Green Bay stabbing victim.
After viewing Jelks’ mugshot, the victim said, with certainty, that Jelks was indeed the man who stabbed him.
If found guilty of the Attempted First Degree Intentional Homicide charge, Jelks could face up to 60 years in prison.
