Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul has joined a multistate federal lawsuit challenging the suspension of SNAP benefits.
This comes during the federal government shutdown, which has now reached 29 days.
The lawsuit argues that the federal government has enough funds to continue providing food assistance.
It further states that halting the program violates the Administrative Procedure Act.
If suspended, it would mark the first interruption of SNAP in the program’s history.
Roughly 40 million Americans, including about 700,000 Wisconsin residents, rely on SNAP benefits.
