A woman from Green Bay has been convicted in a fatal overdose case.
Court documents show that 43-year-old Stacie Girling was in Brown County court last week for a plea hearing as she faced charges of First-Degree Reckless Homicide-Deliver Drugs, and Possession of Narcotic Drugs.
At that hearing, a plea deal was reached, which had Girling enter a no-contest plea to the reckless homicide charge while the other charge was dismissed but read into the record.
This conviction, due to a no-contest plea, comes after the 43-year-old previously pleaded not guilty in March.
This case dates back to November of 2023, when EMS was called to a residence in Howard on a report of a man overdosing.
The man, Girling’s boyfriend, would later be pronounced dead despite efforts to revive him.
An autopsy determined he died due to “toxic effects of fentanyl.”
During the investigation that followed, the synthetic drug was found in the home, and witnesses claimed that Girling had left to buy the drug earlier in the day.
Roughly two and a half months after the incident, she was arrested and charged with Reckless Homicide, the charge she has since been convicted of.
Girling will now return to court in Brown County to be sentenced on December 16th.
