Ascension Wisconsin has introduced a new safety initiative aimed at protecting mothers after childbirth.
The hospital network is now giving all new mothers an orange alert bracelet to help first responders quickly recognize post-birth complications.
The program began this month and requires mothers to wear the bright band for six weeks after delivery across all Ascension Wisconsin hospitals.
Medical experts say the bracelets serve as a visual cue for healthcare providers.
They are hoped to help identify risks such as infection, blood clots, and heavy bleeding, especially in emergencies when a mother may be unable to speak for herself.
