
The Valders Vikings are sending both their boys and girls cross country teams to the state meet next week by virtue of second-place finishes at Saturday’s WIAA Division Three Sectionals meet held at Meadow Links Golf Course in Manitowoc.
Roncalli junior Elliot Onesti won the boys race in a time of 16 minutes and 12 seconds, 26 seconds faster than runner-up, senior Ben Beck of Iola Scandinavia. Lourdes Academy of Oshkosh was the boys’ team champion and will join the Vikings at state.
Mishicot placed fifth, host Manitowoc Lutheran was sixth, Roncalli placed ninth, and Kewaunee and Hilbert were 13th and 14th, respectively.
Mishicot’s Ben Brice and Jacob Harrsion of Roncalli finished 7th and 8th, respectively, and just missed qualifying for the state meet.
The Valders girls are headed back to state. The Vikings placed second, with Kewaunee winning the team title and joining Valders at State.
Mishicot was fifth, Brillion finished seventh, host Manitowoc Lutheran was eighth, and Algoma was 15th.
Hannah Miller of Kewaunee won the sectional title and also advanced to state, along with sophomores Juliana Doerner of Mishicot and Alana Kempen of Brillion. Freshman Breiah Newton of Sevastopol also qualifies for state.
Manitowoc Lincoln hosted the Division One meet, with the Ships girls placing third. Junior Natalie Portmann and sophomore Norah Free of The Ships are headed to the state meet.
Meanwhile, Slinger dominated the meet, scoring a team low 19 points. The Owls had the top three finishers and six of the top ten. Oshkosh West placed second and is headed to state. Sheboygan North placed 10th.
In the boys’ race, Manitowoc Lincoln placed sixth, with Sheboygan North finishing seventh. Golden Raiders senior Kasey Levinsohn qualified for state.
Hartford Union won the team title with Oshkosh West finishing second, and both those teams are headed to the state meet, which will be held on November 1st at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.
