Sheboygan’s representative in the State Assembly is providing resources for those dealing with hunger during the federal government shutdown.
26th District Assemblyman Joe Sheehan has said that FoodShare benefits will be delayed starting in November amid the shutdown, leaving many who are already dealing with food scarcity in need of critical assistance.
However, there are still programs available to Sheboyganites to assist, including the Sheboygan Cures Hunger webpage, which provides a calendar for local food pantries and county community meals.
With this uncertainty in mind, Representative Sheehan encourages those in a position to help neighbors in need to consider donating to the Sheboygan County Food Bank.
Additional information on food services in the Sheboygan area can be found on the 211 Wisconsin website or by calling 877-947-2211.
Currently, it is estimated that 700,000 Wisconsinites with limited incomes will be affected by the delay in these FoodShare programs, including 260,000 children under the age of 18, many of whom reside in and around Sheboygan.
