One person is in custody after a child abuse investigation in the City of Fond du Lac.
Detectives with the Fond du Lac Police Department responded to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee on October 13th after a caller stated a 3-month-old girl had sustained a broken arm.
The injury was first discovered after the young child was picked up from Lily Pad Day Care, located in the 800 block of 4th Street in Fond du Lac.
She was first treated at a local hospital before being referred to Children’s Hospital to receive specialized care.
A thorough investigation into the incident would follow.
This included numerous interviews and an extensive review of surveillance footage from Lily Pad Day Care.
As a result, on Monday (October 20th), Fond du Lac Detectives arrested 32-year-old Ashley Karschnick, a caretaker at the daycare, for her suspected involvement in the child’s broken arm.
Following the announcement of this arrest, Lieutenant Nick Hahn stated, “We understand how deeply troubling cases like this are, and we remain committed to thorough investigations, transparency, and accountability.”
This case was investigated in close coordination with the Fond du Lac County Department of Human Services, Child Protective Services, and Wisconsin Department of Children and Families.
