A local coalition is getting some grant money to help food insecurity.
The Hunger Coalition of Manitowoc County got the grant from Corteva Agriscience on behalf of Forest Brook Seeds, supporting their Harvest of the Month initiative.
The check was presented to Grow It Forward CEO Amber Daugs, underscoring a shared commitment to improving food access and community health across Manitowoc County.
The funding will be immediately used to advance the Coalition’s mission to collaboratively create solutions that increase food security and healthy food access.
Daugs said of the grant funding, “It doesn’t just help us provide more food, it helps us provide better food. Fresh, nutritious fruits and vegetables that improve the health of our neighbors.”
The Harvest of the Month was spotlighted for locally sourcing apples, promoting the “Great Apple Crunch” and encouraging the use of seasonals produced through FoodWIse educational materials like recipes and preparation tips.
The Hunger Coalition will also work with Wilfert Farms in Two Rivers to purchase and distribute carrots.
