Students at UW-Madison are pushing back against budget cuts threatening the university’s American Sign Language (ASL) program.
The cuts, tied to broader reductions in federal funding, jeopardized ASL course offerings and a teaching position.
A petition led by student Bella Ferak gathered over 2,000 signatures.
This petition is asking the university to reinstate some classes and retain faculty.
However, students remain concerned about the long-term stability of the program.
University officials insist they plan to offer ASL courses next semester despite financial constraints.
