A new fire station in the Town of Newton looks to be coming to fruition in the near future.
According to their Facebook page, a groundbreaking for the new fire station looks to be happening on Saturday, November 1st, with early construction starting next year.
The town is also asking residents to help build the new building with a dollar-for-dollar match up to $250,000 from the Kruidenier Charitable Foundation through December 31st.
Donations can be dropped off at the current firefighter station on Carstens Lake Road.
Earlier this year, we reported that the Newton Board of Supervisors was allowed to borrow up to seven million after a referendum was approved by voters in the 2024 General Election.
The original fire station was built in 1963 and was expanded in 1991.
However, it has become too small to fit modern-sized fire trucks and doesn’t have the appropriate amenities for firefighters, like ventilation and showers.
There were seventeen meetings held with Newton’s Building Committee and numerous meetings with residents to show the process of getting the fire station built.
