A local farmer-led conservation group is looking to educate its fellow growers next week.
The Seven Rivers Soil Cooperative will be hosting Roots & Residue: Cover Crop and Low Disturbance Manure Injection (LDMI) Tour on Wednesday (October 22nd) from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
This event will be free to attend and take place at multiple locations throughout the county, beginning at the Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center.
Tara Wachowski, with the Seven Rivers Soil Cooperative, spoke with SeehaferNews.com to explain what those in attendance can expect.
She said, “Participants will learn directly from local farmers and regional experts who are successfully implementing these practices and are seeing soil health benefits across their farms.”
After leaving Farm Wisconsin, Tara also explained what attendees will get up to next.
“An LDMI with cover crops conversation and a live-hazard map demo at Cedar Springs Dairy Farm,” Tara explained. “And then, finally, an in-field soil health demonstration at Don Rabitz Farm.”
Cover crops and LDMI are considered two key strategies in not only improving soil health, but also making one’s farm more sustainable.
Participants will get to hear from fellow local farmers and experts who will equip them with practical and innovative strategies to enhance soil fertility, reduce erosion, and maximize their farm’s efficiency.
