A Manitowoc man facing charges in a shooting death has entered his plea.
20-year-old Kirk Dunn is pleading not guilty to 1st-degree intentional homicide and 2nd-degree recklessly endangering safety after prosecutors filed information in an amended criminal complaint earlier today (October 15th).
Dunn’s Attorney Mellisa Barrette also said he will not express his right for a substitution of judge.
The 20-year-old will return to court on December 19th for a scheduling conference.
Dunn is charged in a shooting that killed a victim, identified by family as 25-year-old Jaisiah Owens, at an apartment complex on Dewey Street toward the end of September.
Family members for the victim said that the shooting was over a woman during Dunn’s bail hearing.
A criminal complaint alleged that Dunn used a .40 caliber handgun to shoot and kill Owens while the defense claimed during a preliminary hearing last week that the 25-year-old victim was coming after Dunn.
Dunn also claimed that he was using self-defense in the complaint.
Owens was taken away in a private vehicle after getting hit around the abdomen twice and once in the leg.
He would later pass away on South 17th Street due to his injuries.
The 2nd-degree recklessly endangering safety charge comes after a bullet from a gun Dunn allegedly used was found in another building where the victim was sleeping.
