The City of Manitowoc is extending the timeline for development on the former mall property.
The city’s Finance Committee approved an extension of the construction request for TID 24, which allows the development of housing and business at the former Lakeshore and Mid-Cities Mall sites on the city’s northside.
According to documents, factors for the extension include the timeline for a Remedial Action Plan and Materials Management Plan, which the Wisconsin DNR needed to approve.
The city submitted the plan in April this year, but it wasn’t granted until August.
The city also officially transferred the land to Tycore Built, which is the company assigned to redevelop the area.
Also, during the meeting, the city approved a new agreement for a regional stormwater pond. Manitowoc will pay up to 74% of the pond’s cost, or approximately $887,300.
The entire project is estimated to cost roughly $1.1 million.
The city purchased the former mall properties in March 2024.
Since then, the city has approved a project for 40 single-family homes, with the possibility of adding apartments in the future.
The estimated project cost is about $70 million.
