The Manitowoc Public School District will be holding a hearing for its annual budget.
The hearing will be held tomorrow (October 14th) at 5:30 p.m. at the district office building on Lindburgh Drive.
Superintendent Lee Thennes stated on the WCUB Breakfast Club that the budget is balanced; however, the district lost some more students.
“We’re one of 73% of the districts in the state that is experiencing declining enrollment,” he noted. “So, as most people are aware, we’re also working towards looking at the future of the district and how that will be organized too.”
But with the budget, the city and areas around the district did grow, meaning the district’s mill rate will drop because they are underlevying.
Thennes also said the district did some staff reduction and will be working on the consolidation of schools.
A presentation date has been announced for Wednesday, October 22nd, to hear from two committees about what they feel the district should do.
Documents from the district’s Finance and Facilities Committee show that there will be an increase in funding for special education from state aid and an increased transfer in one of their funds.
