This year, Two Rivers High School started a ‘Bell to Bell, no Cell’ policy.
Over the summer, some students recorded a video reminder that was shared on social media, and multiple reminders were sent out to families since the beginning of summer break.
Throughout the process of making the change, community members of the town have been supportive.
How Many Incidents have happened since the change?
Within the first week of school, there were less than 15 incidents, but since then, the number has gone down, with most of the incidents involving smart watches, not cellphones
Have Teachers noticed a difference?
Overall, the students have been much more engaged and are participating in classes at a higher rate. Many students are requesting to move out of the study halls and take more classes; work completion rate has gone up as well.
What are students’ reactions?
Some students still want their phones. However, many students cannot believe how productive they have been with getting work done. One noted, “it was hard at first, but after a couple of weeks it is easier.”
Overall, the ‘bell to bell, no cell’ has been an early success and will continue moving forward.
