Law enforcement agencies in the Sheboygan area have offered tips to help combat human trafficking in our communities.
Sheboygan County’s Human Trafficking Task Force and the Sheboygan Police Department’s Victim Services have stated that they are often asked by residents about what to do if they suspect a human trafficking incident is occurring.
First and foremost, they want to inform the public that human trafficking takes place everywhere, not just in big cities, but locally in small, tight-knit communities.
If you suspect a trafficking situation, they advise individuals to be good witnesses by speaking up to report it to the authorities with specific details.
These details include a location, descriptions of those involved, dates and times, and vehicle and license plate information if applicable.
This information can be reported to local police departments, confidential advocacy groups like Safe Harbor, or the national Human Trafficking Hotline.
When discussing the importance of speaking up, the Task Force stated, “Your observations might relate to the information that law enforcement and advocacy need to make a difference in someone’s life.”
Potential human trafficking situations can be reported to Safe Harbor of Sheboygan County by calling 920-452-7640, while the National Hotline is available by calling 1-888-373-7888.
