Health officials in Sheboygan County have doubled down on their stance on the use of acetaminophen during pregnancy.
Sheboygan County’s Division of Public Health is assuring residents that high-quality studies confirm that the common fever reducer and pain reliever is safe to use while pregnant.
This comes after President Donald Trump and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr made claims that using acetaminophen, which they commonly referred to as Tylenol, during pregnancy is linked to an autism diagnosis in children.
However, Sheboygan Public Health echoed the sentiments of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), which stated, “Science is clear: there is no link between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and autism in children.”
ACOG continued to say, “More than two decades of research have found no causal link between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and autism, ADHD, or intellectual disability in children.”
Health professionals in the county and abroad firmly believe that the drug remains to be a safe and important option to manage both pain and fever during pregnancy, both of which can pose serious risks to pregnant patients and the fetus if left untreated.
