A bill penned by an area state senator has now become law.
Governor Tony Evers has taken Senate Bill 33, authored by State Senator Andre Jacque of New Franken, and signed it into law to make it Wisconsin Act 34, which ensures the state’s criminal code is updated to reflect the increasing use and potential misuse of artificial intelligence (AI), especially for representations of nudity.
The act also defines “synthetic intimate representation” and prohibits posting, publishing, distributing, or exhibiting a synthetic intimate representation of an identifiable person with the intent to harass or intimidate them.
Jacque previously explained to Seehafernews.com that current state law prohibits non-consensual creation and dissemination of representations depicting nudity, but didn’t directly address the unauthorized creation of sexually explicit images known as “deep fakes.”
The material is usually used for non-consensual pornography and exclusively targets and harms women, while it can also be used against children.
