Flags will be flying at half-staff today (October 4th) to honor a recently passed forester from Sheboygan County.
Governor Tony Evers announced yesterday (October 3rd) that Executive Order 276 will have flags flying at half-staff following the death of Adam Zirbel, a Department of Natural Resources Forester and a Plymouth resident.
Zirbel passed away on September 22nd at the age of 48 after being struck by lightning while working near the New Fane Trail in the Town of Kewaskum.
At the time of his passing, he served as the senior forester at Kettle Moraine State Forest’s Northern Unit and had helped plant millions of trees throughout the Northern Unit.
When discussing Zirbel’s lasting legacy, Governor Evers said, “Adam committed his life to preserving and protecting Wisconsin’s forestlands, and his sudden passing leaves behind a void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing, loving, and working alongside him.”
Executive Order 276 will be in effect today from sunrise to sunset.
