Even though the federal government is shut down, Manitowoc County’s representative in Washington says Republicans did their job.
Sixth District Congressman Glenn Grothman states that his party passed a clean continuing resolution to keep the government open, fully fund essential services, and protect programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, veterans’ benefits, WIC, and more.
Grothman continued to say that he had voted for similar bills in the past to keep the government running, even though he disagreed with the Biden Administration.
The Glenbeulah Republican says Democrats are trying to pass a wish list of items for unnecessary climate projects and funding for “liberal media outlets.”
On the other side, Democratic Congressman Mark Pocan says he didn’t vote for a bill proposed by Republicans to keep the federal government open because it “fails to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits that lower premiums for millions of Americans.”
He also said that millions of Americans will see their healthcare premiums increase because Republicans didn’t extend a key tax break for families or support the Enhanced Premium Tax Credit.
The federal government will reopen after President Trump signs a funding package.
