Manitowoc County might be getting more in sales tax revenue than expected.
A caller asked last week if there will be enough money to help support the Human Services Department after it ran into a deficit in the 2025 budget.
County Executive Bob Ziegelbauer explained on WOMT’s Be My Guest program that the county is expecting about $7.5 million, but right now it’s running a little ahead.
The county executive noted, “We have six or seven months of revenue, so it’s probably a little bit more than $7.5 million.”
He says he also thinks it might go up into next year as well. However, Ziegelbauer also said that other departments are also looking to use the sales tax revenue.
He said the sheriff’s office has seen its budget go up.
“A million dollars last year,” he described. “And they’re projected to go a million or so this year.”
Ziegelbauer will be presenting the 2026 county budget in October before an approval vote in November.
The county board voted to approve the county sales tax in 2024.
