A homicide suspect in Manitowoc has waived his initial appearance.
20-year-old Kirk Dunn returned to Manitowoc County court this (yesterday) afternoon for the appearance in Judge Anthony Lambrecht’s courtroom.
Attorney Nathan Heim explained that Dunn qualifies for public defender representation but has been unable to find an attorney.
Heim asked Lambrecht to waive the reading of the criminal complaint and demanded a preliminary hearing.
The judge approved and will have Dunn return to court on October 9th for that hearing.
The 20-year-old faces 1st-degree intentional homicide charges in the death of a person that’s been identified by family as 25-year-old Jaisiah Owens.
Owens was shot at an apartment complex on Dewey Street last week and was taken away by a private vehicle but would later succumb to his injuries.
Dunn also faces a 2nd-degree recklessly endangering safety charge for an incident with a rifle.
He claimed he was acting in self-defense.
