The Gillett man charged in the death of a former Green Bay Police Officer has been deemed competent to stand trial.
Court documents show that 33-year-old Obilio Tomas Sargento Roblero returned to an Oconto County courtroom on Tuesday (September 23rd) for his competency hearing.
Roblero is facing one count of Hit and Run Involving Death for the incident that took the life of retired Green Bay PD Officer Thomas Roberts nearly one year ago.
At the hearing, the court received the results of the 33-year-old’s competency exam, which stated he was indeed fit to move forward with court proceedings.
Roblero himself also agreed that he was competent to move forward as well.
On the night of October 25th, 2024, in the Town of Gillett, Roberts was parked on the side of the road in a UTV attempting to help another UTV operator who was having troubles.
It is alleged that Roblero was behind the wheel of an SUV that struck Roberts’ UTV.
Life-saving measures were rendered; however, Roberts was pronounced at the scene while Roblero fled.
A large-scale search effort ensued, which tracked the suspect to Jacksonville, Arkansas, where he was eventually arrested three days later.
Roblero will now return to court for his preliminary hearing on October 23rd.
