There are only a few more days to register for the upcoming Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Manitowoc.
The walk takes place at the Manitowoc-Two Rivers YMCA on Saturday (September 27th) at 10:00 a.m. The event starts at 8:30 a.m., before the opening ceremony at 9:40 a.m.
The walk will be along the Mariners Trail from the Y and will go 1.5 miles up and back on the trail.
According to act.alz.org, 129 participants, including 24 teams, have registered for the walk.
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s Association is about $10,000 away from its goal of raising $41,500.
Event Organizer CJ Werley says the group is very excited because there are a lot more teams participating this year.
He hopes that about 150 people will be registered by Saturday, and they will be able to reach their goal.
Those who donate a minimum of $100 will receive an official t-shirt from the event via the United States Postal Service.
Werley finishes saying that the day is to honor those who passed on because of the disease and recognize those who are still fighting today.
According to the official Walk to End Alzheimer’s website, deaths from the disease have doubled between 2000 and 2021, and one in three seniors die with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia.
