A Manitowoc man convicted in a drug-related homicide has been sentenced.
Court records show that 38-year-old Christopher Ducat will spend nine years in a Wisconsin State Prison, followed by five years of extended supervision, after he was charged with 1st-degree reckless homicide by delivering drugs.
Part of his supervision includes maintaining absolute sobriety, submitting to random urine screenings, and paying restitution to the Salvation Army of Manitowoc County and Lakeshore CAP.
A criminal complaint states that Ducat became a suspect after the 42-year-old victim, who wasn’t named, overdosed in July 2023.
According to a family member, the victim met with a person nicknamed “Butch”, who would later turn out to be Ducat.
Manitowoc Police say the victim and Ducat texted over the phone and would later do a drug deal before they overdosed.
Ducat would run away from police on foot and in a car when they tried to question him, but he was eventually captured.
During interrogation, he said he felt sorry for the family after the incident happened, but initially denied talking to the victim before.
The victim officially died as a result of a fentanyl overdose, according to autopsy reports.
