A Menasha man has been recognized for his role in saving the life of a fellow community member in Neenah earlier this year.
At last week’s Neenah Common Council meeting, the Citizen Life Saving Award was presented to Nathan Baurain, who was the first person on the scene after a cyclist was severely injured.
Baurain was driving and observed the incident that took place on May 15th along Winneconne Avenue and Isebella Street.
The bicyclist sustained severe injuries and was experiencing substantial blood loss.
In an instance, Baurain sprang to action, forming a makeshift tourniquet with his t-shirt and a nearby tree branch.
Once applied, it substantially lowered the blood loss.
Furthermore, Neenah PD stated, “Nathan verbally reassured the bicyclist that he would be fine…His words were a force multiplier in generating a survival mindset with the incapacitated subject…Nathan’s immediate actions during this critical situation helped save the cyclist’s life.”
Baurain was officially awarded the Citizen Life Saving Award by the City of Neenah while also being awarded the Neenah Police Department Challenge Coin by Chief Aaron Olson.
He received these awards after being nominated for his heroic efforts by Officer Brent Wittman, the first officer on the scene.
