A man is being charged in Kewaunee County with being the organizer of a major theft ring around eastern Wisconsin.
FOX11 reports that Cesar Mendoza Mora, who has ties to Mexico, is facing one felony count of receiving stolen property.
The 27-year-old is accused of buying thousands of dollars’ worth of car and truck tires that were paid for using a fraudulent credit card.
He was given a $50,000 cash bail in Kewaunee County Court yesterday.
A criminal complaint alleges that Mendoza Mora would purchase the tires from Bob’s Auto Parts and Jorn’s Chevrolet in Kewaunee over the phone under the name Matthew Donovan.
The tires would be immediately picked up after he used the fraudulent credit card, but the card would be rejected.
However, the tires would already be gone.
Kewaunee County Sheriff Matt Joski says the case against Mendoza Mora is far from over, and his department will continue to dig through records to find out how deep the thefts go.
The criminal complaint states that other communities, including Two Rivers, Green Bay, Little Chute, and Luxemburg, are also investigating incidents that could have involved Mendoza Mora, who again used the name Matthew Donavan.
