With bipartisan support, a Wisconsin Senator’s bill aimed at fighting the fentanyl crisis in America is heading to President Donald Trump’s desk.
The Safe Response Act, authored by Senator Tammy Baldwin, passed the Senate last week and is set to be signed into law by President Trump.
The act has garnered strong support from both sides of the political aisle at the local, state, and federal levels.
If signed into law by the president, it will provide first responders with training and resources to prevent overdose deaths.
The Safe Response Act will provide $57 million a year from fiscal year 2026 through 2030 for grants for first responders across the country.
It will expand the availability of life-saving medications such as Narcan and other overdose-reversing drugs that have been proven to save lives.
When addressing why this piece of legislation is needed, Senator Baldwin stated, “Our law enforcement and first responders are on the front lines every day fighting the fentanyl crisis in Wisconsin, and it’s my job to make sure they have the resources they need to save lives.”
