A Ripon man accused of trying to kill a woman with an axe has entered his plea.
34-year-old Hayden Daffinson appeared inside a Fond du Lac County courtroom on Friday (September 19th) for his arraignment.
Daffinson is facing eight felony charges including Attempted First-Degree Intentional Homicide, First-Degree Sexual Assault with the Use of a Dangerous Weapon, and First-Degree Reckless Injury for the violent assault that took place in June earlier this year.
At last week’s hearing, the 34-year-old entered a plea of not guilty by mental disease or defect to all charges he faces.
On the night of the attack, Fond du Lac Police were called to the 300 block of East Merrill Avenue on a report of someone who had been attacked with an axe that was actively bleeding.
The victim, a 38-year-old woman, identified Daffinson as her attacker.
Arriving emergency personnel found the woman with severe lacerations to her head, limbs, and back.
Life-saving measures were rendered, and the victim was then transported to a local hospital.
An intensive investigation followed as authorities worked to locate the 34-year-old suspect.
He was tracked down to Germantown, where he would be arrested after a brief vehicle pursuit.
No future court date has been set for Daffinson at this time, as he will now undergo an examination to determine the validity of his mental disease or defect pleas.
