Senator Tammy Baldwin has reached across the political aisle to help cut the cost of fertilizer.
The Fertilizer Research Act, co-written by Iowa Republican Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst, would require the Department of Agriculture (USDA) to conduct a study on competition and trends in the fertilizer market and their subsequent impacts on price.
Senator Baldwin noted that “Wisconsin’s farmers are the backbone of our rural communities,” and that “Fertilizer costs are often a huge expense for farmers.”
Fellow Democrat, Senator Raphael Warnock of Georgia, has also co-sponsored the bill, which is endorsed by the Wisconsin Corn Growers Association, National Corn Growers Association, American Soybean Association, American Farm Bureau Federation, National Farmers Union, and Farm Action Fund.
