
Troy A. Vetting was called home on September 12, 2025, at age 54, in Hastings, Minnesota. Troy was born in Manitowoc on May 19, 1971, to Mary Lee (Schmidt) and Jerome A. Vetting. He graduated from Roncalli High School in 1989 and then enlisted in the United States Navy. Troy served as a Machinist Mate on submarines, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in 2010. He returned to the Manitowoc area and worked in the nuclear power field starting at Kewaunee Nuclear Power Station until its closure. He spent the last 10 years at Prairie Island Nuclear Power Plant in Redwing, Minnesota. Troy was an avid golfer early on, and also enjoyed playing softball. In his retirement, he took up running and competed in several marathons. He was proud “Uncle T” to his nieces and nephews and loved spending time with them.
Troy is survived by his father Jerome; siblings Brad (Wendy) Vetting and Stacie (Dale) Christel; nieces and nephews Jon Vetting, Nick (Devyn) Vetting, Kaylee (Dylan) Bishop, and Maddie Vetting; great-nephew Jay Vetting; step-siblings Colleen (Bruce) Riesterer, William Niehausen, and Christy (Brian) Schmitz; step-nieces and nephews Angela (Andrew) Nguyen, Emma Lee (Robert) Leimbach, Jacob (Agnieszka) Riesterer, Darcy Dunn-Niehausen, Kathryn (Joshua) Berg, Neal Riesterer, Alexander Schmitz, Meghan (Jonathan) Chavez, Zachary Schmitz, and Michael Schmitz; as well as many other family members and friends. Troy was preceded in death by his mother Mary Lee Vetting, step-mother Patricia Vetting, step-brother-in-law Brian Schmitz, grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
Relatives and friends may greet the family at Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center, 620 N. Water St., Manitowoc, on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of a Celebration Life Service at 3:00 p.m., with Military Honors to follow. Burial of his urn will be held privately at Evergreen Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Troy’s name are appreciated to the American Heart Association.
