A Two Rivers resident has created a petition to “save the concessions stand at Neshotah Beach.”
Last month, during a Two River Work Session meeting, Parks and Recreation Director Mike Mathis showed plans to the city council for completely rebuilding the concessions stand on Neshotah Beach.
Mathis told the council that the stand will not meet health code regulations in about a year in its current state. He proposed a newly designed concession stand that would feature a new area, new restrooms, and a newly designed interior rental space.
Susan Robitaille, who started the petition on Change.org, says that the stand has been more than just a snack counter but a place where children and families lined up to grab popsicles and ice cream after a long day at the beach.
She continued saying, “It is a piece of Two Rivers’ history — full of character, charm, and heart.”
The petition is asking residents to sign on to halt the plan to demolish the current concession stand, explore a better option for repair and renovation, and involve the community in shaping a solution that preserves both the history and future..
As of this morning, just over 450 people have signed the petition.
The city council has not gotten a proposal to vote on for redoing anything with the concessions stand yet.
