Two committees in the Manitowoc Public School District are close to a recommendation involving the consolidation of schools.
Superintendent Lee Thennes explained on WOMT’s Be My Guest program that a meeting was held last week between two facility advisory committees, with one being made up of MPSD staff and the other made up of residents.
The meeting was to work out details about what the district should look like in the future.
“They’re going to be putting together a presentation for the board of education that will take place at the end of October, with some recommendations as far as how we should be structuring ourselves as a district moving forward,” the Superintendent explained.
Thennes says it won’t only be for the buildings, but also with grade alignment and other things both groups want to see.
The possible changes have been worked on since February, when the district asked residents to join a facility advisory committee to help shape the district.
The topic arose after a listener inquired about the fate of the McKinley Online Learning Academy due to the consolidation.
Thennes said that the program will be staying in the Stangle Learning Academy for now.
