Some local politicians and political leaders are responding after the death of a conservative political influencer.
Charlie Kirk was shot and killed at a college campus in Utah while debating college students.
Sixth District Congressman Glenn Grothman, who represents Manitowoc County in Washington, says he was heartbroken by the loss of Kirk.
“Political violence has no place in America,” he said bluntly. “We can disagree without resorting to hatred or harm. My prayers are with his family as we remember Charlie, a hardworking young man and devoted father.”
Wisconsin Democratic Party Chairman Devin Remiker, who’s originally from Two Rivers, also released a statement condemning the shooting and calling it a horrific loss of a son, husband, and father because of political violence that “plagues our country.”
Remiker also stated, “This sort of violence will continue until all of us, regardless of party, condemn these sorts of heinous actions — no matter where it comes from or who it is directed at. We must look for truth in these moments so that we can move forward together and not be torn apart by the conspiracies and misinformation that often follow these tragic events.”
Kirk was the founder of Turning Point USA, a conservative organization that focuses on engaging younger people in politics.
He was 31 years old when he died yesterday.
