Sheboygan’s representative in the State Assembly is looking to strengthen the wages of state workers.
Late last week, 26th District Assemblyman Joe Sheehan and his Democratic colleagues introduced the Build a Stronger Wisconsin bill package.
One of the most prevalent portions of this bill, which was authored by Sheehan himself, would restore Wisconsin’s principal wage law.
Also in the package is a complete repeal of the state’s “Right to Work” laws.
By doing this, the bill is intended to strengthen worker misclassification laws while also restoring project labor agreements amid a skilled labor shortage in Wisconsin.
When discussing the implications of this bill, Representative Sheehan said, “Guaranteeing a fair wage and benefits package by restoring prevailing wage on Wisconsin’s state building projects will help make skilled labor a more attractive career, keep money spent on state projects here in the state, and ensure our laborers have all the tools they need to thrive in our state.”
