Four students were arrested after displaying a fake gun near an Oshkosh school.
Oshkosh Police were called to the 1500 block of Taft Avenue, which is a skate park across from Oshkosh West High School, after getting reports of a male displaying a gun.
Oshkosh West was placed in a secure status while police investigated the incident. OPD was able to determine that the gun was not real, but rather a BB gun that’s made to look like a real gun.
The four juveniles were all identified and taken into custody.
Criminal charges are pending. Oshkosh Police say that facsimile firearms can be easily mistaken for real guns by law enforcement and the public due to their realistic appearance.
This can quickly escalate situations and lead to potentially tragic outcomes during disturbances.
They strongly encourage parents to be aware of the risks associated with their children having facsimile weapons.
Anyone with information about the incident can contact Oshkosh Police at 920-236-5700 or Winnebago County Crimestoppers at 920-231-8477.
