A Sheboygan nonprofit has announced that it will be shutting down.
The operators of Sheboygan Pay It Forward, Scott and Kathleen Labonte, have said that they have come to the tough decision to dissolve their organization, which looks to aid those experiencing homelessness in the community.
This decision comes as the group was searching for a new, permanent home after previously being evicted from their prior residence in the EBCO Building on Erie Avenue, which was recently condemned by the City of Sheboygan.
In the time since, they were taken in by the Salvation Army to operate while a forever home was found; however, with heavy hearts, Scott and Kathleen have shared that it will not happen.
On why this decision was made, the two said, “The truth is, we’re just tired. Tired of fighting to be seen in a city that didn’t always want to acknowledge us. Tired of carrying the weight mostly on our own, missing family moments, and pouring every ounce of ourselves into this work.”
They continued to say that the toll has been heavy and that they could not continue on.
Despite sharing the unfortunate decision, they made sure to acknowledge their peers and fellow volunteers who were able to help those experiencing homelessness in Sheboygan.
Pay It Forward’s last day open at the Salvation Army will be on September 12th, with their final Sunday lunch coming on September 14th.
The full announcement can be found on the Pay It Forward Facebook page.
