The City of Sheboygan has received millions to improve its public transportation system.
Governor Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation have announced that $22 million in funding has been awarded across the state to improve transportation projects with a focus on air quality improvements, reducing traffic delays, and congestion.
That includes $2.1 million awarded to Sheboygan and its public transportation entity, Shoreline Metro, to purchase five heavy-duty buses to replace existing ones currently in use.
When addressing this funding that comes from the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program, Governor Evers said, “With this funding, we’re working to build the strong and resilient 21st-century infrastructure that Wisconsinites need and expect.”
Sheboygan and Shoreline Metro are one of 16 recipients of the $22 million, and the only such in Northeastern Wisconsin.
At this time, no timeline has been provided for when the new buses will make it to Sheboygan and hit the streets.
