Every year, the Sheboygan County Fair features countless musical acts entertaining the thousands of patrons in attendance.
This year, on the fair’s opening day, all live music was kicked off by local band the Flying Zebras. Matt Overby, who does rhythm guitar and backup vocals for the band, talked to SeehaferNews.com before hitting the stage.
He explained just what kind of vibes and music he and his bandmates bring to the stage.
“Everything,” he said emphatically. “We do everything from 70s funk to some 80s, some 90s. We do a little bit of everything, even music from today and a little hip-hop. We like to mash up a few songs so you never know what we’re going to play next.”
He also mentioned how playing their debut Sheboygan County Fair show comes as a big-time gig for the Flying Zebras.
“This is our first time, so we’re very excited. We’ve been playing the bar gigs in Plymouth and a little in Sheboygan bars as well. So this is kind of our biggest gig and kind of a hometown gig as well,” he explained.
However, it’s more than just that for Overbee, as he grew up and went to school in Plymouth, where the fair takes place.
He told us how this show serves as a bit of a full-circle moment for him.
“I remember as a kid being in the cattle barns, I showed rabbits, I’ve had artwork from being a kid growing up in the Plymouth School District,” he said proudly. “So it’s very, very exciting to be here and playing the county fair that I’ve been going to since I was a child.
As a former competitor himself, he spoke on what his favorite part of the fair is each and every year.
Excited to check it out, he said, “I’ve got to stay true and say the 4-H building. I have to go there every time, I have to get a shake, and I have to see all the other items that people have brought in to show for the year.
