A Sheboygan art collective is drawing closer to finding a new home.
At Tuesday’s City Plan Commission meeting, the group approved the Specific Implementation Plan for Sheboygan Visual Artists (SVA), who are looking to open the gallery at 534 South Pier Drive.
This move comes as SVA, much like Pay It Forward, has been searching for a new home after being evicted from their longtime residence on Erie Avenue due to the City condemning the EBCO Building.
The group will be moving into the space next door to Inkling’s Used Books, which SVA President Thomas Ferguson says will benefit both locations as he forecasts a strong overlap in customers.
Regarding the move, he also added, “Our art exhibits will help draw tourists and local residents to the South Pier area. The SVA art gallery will complement other South Pier businesses.”
In the City Plan Commission meeting documents, it was stated that SVA originally hoped to move in by September 1st; however, due to the timing of the approval of their Specific Implementation Plan, that move-in date may be pushed back.
