A Sheboygan nonprofit aiming to help those experiencing homelessness has provided an update on its future.
Sheboygan Pay It Forward is in the process of finding a new, permanent home after its past residence had to be vacated due to the EBCO building on Erie Avenue being condemned by the City.
In the time since, the Salvation Army on Pennsylvania Avenue has opened its doors to Pay It Forward, serving as a temporary headquarters.
Back in July, the nonprofit was in contact with Catholic Charities about a potential move to the lower level of the building on the corner of 5th Street and Wisconsin Avenue, the former location of Genesis Rehabilitation.
However, Catholic Charities has said there are bigger issues with the location that must be considered and dealt with prior to considering tenants.
At this time, discussions about moving into the location are being tabled for approximately one year.
Despite the unfortunate news, Pay It Forward has stated that it does give them clarity on the road ahead to finding a permanent location.
The Salvation Army has offered to extend the contract with Pay It Forward and expand their hours while they continue the search for their forever home.
The nonprofit has enjoyed the generosity of the Salvation Army, stating, “Their support means we can keep our doors open to the many people who rely on us each day.”
