The City of Sheboygan is looking to dispel misinformation being spread regarding an upcoming public safety project.
As SeehaferNews.com reported last week, the Sheboygan Common Council received a presentation from Wendel Company – Five Bulges Design on design plans for Fire Station 2, 3, and a new Public Safety Campus.
After receiving the presentation, the vote to begin the design phase of the project passed by a unanimous vote.
However, as stated by the City, misinformation has been spread to Sheboygan Alders regarding the project’s finances and where money for the project would be coming from.
Marie Foss, the Assistant to the City Administrator, has said that in 2022, the City identified the need for improvements at Fire Station 3, which was included in the 2023 Capital Improvement Plan.
The following year, the contract for the design project for the station was awarded to Five Bulges Design, which was then acquired to do the same for Station Two.
Funding for the Station Two design work and renovation was then added to this year’s budget in 2024.
After that, due to Five Bugles Design’s history and expertise in designing fire stations, police stations, and emergency medical stations, the City explored options for a Public Safety Campus, which was discussed and approved at last week’s Common Council meeting.
The City intends to fund these projects through general obligation debt, which was laid out in the 2025 Capital Plan.
A full breakdown of the financials for the project can be found on the Sheboygan City Hall Facebook page.
