A Reedsville family is very excited for the start of the Manitowoc County Fair.
Mike Taddy and his daughter, Evelyn, were out at the fairgrounds early Wednesday morning getting a calf named Dolly ready, unloaded, and in her stall.
Mike tells us he has been coming to the fair for years and is very excited to be there with his family.
“We’re very happy to be here, especially with it being Evelyn’s first time showing,” he said. “So it’s a very exciting week for us.”
Mike is more than happy to help his daughter get ready for the show because for him, that was never an option.
“As a child, you know, I never showed animals, but we came every year,” he recalled. “Walking through the barns was my favorite experience as a child. Now, as a parent, being able to provide that opportunity for my own kids, it’s next level. And the thing that I was, to speak quite frankly, jealous as a child was the camaraderie among the people and the kids that were showing the animals.”
With this being Evelyn’s first year showing, she tells us she learned a lot about the process, especially Dolly’s personality.
“She’s a Jersey, so kind of stubborn,” she said with a chuckle “She’ll flop a lot, but it’s really exciting. I have two calves showing one, but I brought another one from my house for a friend to show.”
It is very clear that Evelyn has a passion for her animals.
“I just love these calves. They’re my favorite,” she told SeehaferNews.com. “My favorite part of the day is waking up and going to work with them and just spending some time with them, sitting in the barn with them.”
Evelyn has had plenty of help preparing for her first showing.
Not only has her father been by her side, but she has friends who have helped, and she went to the Brown County Fair to try to pick up some tips and tricks.
Mike was very appreciative of the team that puts the fair together, specifically those who set up the animal barns each year.
The gates open every day for the 2025 Manitowoc County Fair at 8:00 a.m., and the schedule for each day’s events can be found on the SeehaferNews.com homepage and the Seehafer News App, powered by United One Credit Union.
