The City of Manitowoc is seeking state grant funding for a major road project downtown.
Engineering Division Manager Greg Minikel requested that the Public Infrastructure Committee direct the engineering staff to submit a grant application for the reconstruction of North 8th Street from Park Street to Waldo Boulevard.
Minikel noted that the section of the roadway was part of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Connecting Highway prior to 8th Street becoming a two-way street in 2022.
The project may not begin until 2029, but it is expected to take approximately 2.5 years to design.
The WisDOT STP-Urban Funding Program could provide the grant money.
The city council unanimously approved the project during their Monday (August 18th) meeting.
