A truck driver is facing serious charges after a crash in March involving a semi and a minivan.
WBAY reports that 64-year-old John Litza has been charged with two counts of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle after the incident in the Town of Grand Chute.
The crash happened at the intersection of West Wisconsin Avenue and North McCarthy Road, where a semi struck a minivan carrying two people.
Both were taken to the hospital but later died.
A criminal complaint notes that snow and ice may have played a role. A witness said the light was green at the time, which would have made it red for Litza’s semi.
The complaint states that Litza was driving 55 miles per hour in the right lane of West Wisconsin Avenue and began to slow down as he approached the intersection.
His speed was 38 miles per hour when the semi hit the minivan.
Police say Litza did not try to swerve and struck the van on the side, pushing it along the road.
Debris and snow were visible on the windshield during the crash. Litza was given a $25,000 signature bond and is scheduled to return to court on September 10.
