
An investigation is underway after a dead body was found in the waters at Peninsula State Park.
The Door County Sheriff’s Office was notified that the deceased individual was discovered in the water near Nicolet Bay Campground just before 8:15 a.m. yesterday (August 19th).
Upon arrival, Sheriff’s Deputies and other emergency personnel located a deceased 61-year-old female.
At this time, authorities have identified the woman; however, her identity is being withheld out of respect for her family.
The circumstances surrounding the 61-year-old’s death remain under investigation, and no further details are available.
In the announcement, Chief Deputy Kyle Veeser assured the public that Peninsula State Park is remaining open and encouraged park-goers to remain vigilant and well-prepared when exploring rugged portions of the park.
Other agencies responding to the scene included Door County Emergency Services, the Gibraltar Fire Department, the Ephraim Fire Department, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
