Residents of Manitowoc County will be able to check the status of their well water at the County Fair.
Each day during the Manitowoc County Fair, running from August 20th through the 24th, residents can bring in a sample of their well water to be screened for nitrates thanks to the Manitowoc County Soil and Water Conservation Department.
Dave Wetenkamp, Director of the Soil and Water Conservation Department, spoke with SeehaferNews.com and explained, “We’ll be located in the Merchants Building, and we’ll provide information, outreach, and free well testing for nitrates. Bring at least half a cup of water in a clean container.”
He added, “Results will be given there while you wait, just to make sure we have clean water in the county. Clean water is important for all of us.”
Those who don’t intend on attending the fair will also be able to drop off a water sample at the Soil and Water Conservation office anytime during fair week to get their well water tested.
Wetenkamp also shared another major undertaking his department is currently handling that will guide what they do for the next decade.
“Every 10 years, the Soil and Water Department updates its 10-Year Land and Water Resource Management plan,” he noted. “This plan sets the resource priorities and work plans for our staff over the next decade.”
Part of the 10-year plan has already been completed; however, Wetenkamp said that they now need the help of residents as well.
