An officer-involved death is under investigation in De Pere.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation reports that officers with the De Pere Police Department, the Ashwaubenon Public Safety Department, and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the Perkofski Boat Launch in the City of De Pere just before 1:00 a.m. on July 26th for a report of an individual with a rifle.
Law enforcement officers attempted negotiations with the man, 44-year-old Scott H. McDonald, however, he drew his rifle, and law enforcement officers from the De Pere Police Department and Ashwaubenon Public Safety Department discharged their weapons.
Aid was administered at the scene, but McDonald was pronounced dead.
The officers involved were identified as Officer Andrew Wickman, Officer Daryl Booth, and Officer Alek Pearson of Ashwaubenon Public Safety, and Officer Kyle Phillips, Officer Ryan McShane, and Sgt. Matthew Magno of the De Pere Police Department.
Law enforcement officers were wearing body cameras during the incident. The involved law enforcement officers were placed on administrative leave, per the agencies’ policies.
All involved law enforcement are said to be fully cooperating with DCI during this investigation.
