A person in Fond du Lac is in custody after making a fake report to the police.
The Fond du Lac Police Department was called to the area of North Macy Street and West Rees Street yesterday (August 13th) just before 9:30 a.m. on a report of an armed robbery.
The caller, a 34-year-old woman, told police that while walking to a bank in the area, a man confronted her at knifepoint and fled with all the money she had on her person.
The area was swiftly locked down by authorities, including a drone team and a K9 unit from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.
However, investigators quickly discovered the truth of the situation after reviewing nearby surveillance footage.
The footage showed that there were no other individuals in the area at the time of the reported robbery, and when confronted with the evidence, the 34-year-old admitted that the story was entirely fabricated.
The woman was then placed under arrest on a probation hold and is now facing a charge of Resisting or Obstructing an Officer.
After the arrest, the Fond du Lac Police Department stated, “False reports waste valuable public safety resources, divert Officers from real emergencies, and put the community at risk.”
